KUU Restaurant
Japanese Brunch Preview
Okay, Houston! I recently attended the KUU Restaurant Japanese Brunch Preview to taste their new Sunday brunch offerings. It debuts on October 14 and I’m sharing my KUU brunch preview experience with you so you’ll know what to order!
Since KUU Restaurant is one of my favorite Houston eateries, I knew Executive Chef Adison Lee would impress invited guests with his artistic plating, fresh ingredients, and innovate entrées.
But first sips from the bar… okay? I ordered the pomegranate mimosa because it sounded healthy and packed with anti-oxidants, right? It was light and fruity and came with a sugar cube base. Maybe not so much on the healthy side but hey, it’s Sunday and calories don’t count!

If pomegranate is not your thing, try a traditional mimosa, lavender mimosa, or a zesty truffle bloody mary.
As you sip your bubbles, try the bites from KUU’s new brunch add-on snack/beverage bar option that includes ceviche, salads, and bite-sized desserts. I promise you’ll want the snack bar option because it means unlimited trips to the snack bar and you will keep going back for more!

After our party gathered, we took our assigned seats in the main dining room. We shared an array of tapa-styled KUU brunch menu items that incorporated locally sourced and seasonal products with traditional Japanese ingredients like sea urchin, pork belly, chicken, lobster, crab, eggs and Japanese yam.
The KUU brunch menu items are created for sharing. Since everything in the menu is delcious, you’ll want to order several plates for your table and share them with your dining companions. Choose the seafood pancake made with tuna tartare, shrimp, squid, onion, cabbage, and carrot. This was my absolute favorite dish!

Head up, you may not want to share the tuna sliders because they are really good. They are made with tuna tartare, pickled shallots, pickled grapes, pickled cucumber, and yam fries. Oh, and the truffle fried rice with truffle, egg, green onion and mushroom is simply a must.
Don’t forget to order the imo salad! You’ll love this refreshing salad made with Japanese purple yam, Japanese red yam, edamame, cherry tomato, corn, and bell pepper. It’s the perfect mix of color and flavor that will make your taste buds do a happy dance in your mouth!

At brunch, I learned that Chef Lee got his start under the direction of master chef Nobu Matsuhisa of Nobu fame. It’s Chef Lee’s international culinary experience and specialty of modern cooking paired with traditional Japanese techniques that makes KUU one of Houston acclaimed restaurants. KUU has been recognized as one of Houston Chronicle’s/ Alison Cook’s Top 100 Restaurants every year since they opened.
Taste & See for Yourself
On October 14, you’ll be able to experience KUU Restaurant Japanese Brunch at Memorial Gateway for yourself.
You can enjoy brunch indoors in KUU Restaurant’s modern designed dining room or outdoors on the spacious patio. Remember, Houston weather should be cooling down in the next few weeks so start planning for your brunch on the patio.
