Maggiano’s Little Italy in Memorial City

[/custom_headline][gap size=”1.313em” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]Maggiano’s Little Italy at Memorial City Mall brought their Italian-American flair to Houston’s west side in September 2016. It’s Maggiano’s third Houston location with the others in the Galleria and Baybook Mall.

Although I missed Maggiano’s grand opening, I visited with a friend for Sunday lunch shortly after they opened.

Maggiano's Little Italy at Memorial City

The first thing I noticed was Maggiano’s spacious main dining room and the sunlit bar area. From the outside, Maggiano’s looked small so I was surprised by the amount of available seating. That’s good to know because when I’m hungry, I don’t like to wait long for a table. Plus, Maggiano’s can accommodate large parties and offers a private dining room for up to 60 people.

The sunlit bar nook and the beautiful chandelier above the hostess area also caught my eye. So I requested a table in the bar area to photograph my food and admire the chandelier.

Sous Chef Fernando came by to greet us and recommend a few of his favorite dishes. It was hard to decide what to order because everything sounded good. My friend and I chose the Marco’s Meal for Two which features 1 appetizer or 1 flatbread or two side salads, 2 classic pastas with an option to upgrade, 1 dessert and two classic pasta gifts to take home! It was the perfect way to sample a variety of dishes and stay within our gift card budget.

Sous Chef Fernando came by our table and gave a brief overview of our dishes. He was able to address our questions and gave us various recommendations.

For starters, we selected the house-made calamari. Chef Fernando said they marinate the squid for 24 hours in skim milk to make the calamari extra tender! It’s served with a side of their famous marinara sauce, a wedge of lemon and lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. I loved it!

Chef Mann's Country-style Pasta is a must order speciality pasta! Hand-twisted pasta, chicken & ricotta meatballs, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic and white wine sauce.

Next, Chef Fernando brought out the Chef Mann’s Country-styled Pasta.  A hand-twisted pasta served with chicken and ricotta meatballs, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic in a white wine sauce. When I saw this on the menu, I didn’t know if I was going to like it. My friend picked it out so I was like okay with a bit of hesitation in my voice. Hands down, this was our best bite from all our dishes! I couldn’t stop eating it. Seriously, who can resist a garlic white wine sauce?

Our second main entrée was the Chicken and Spinach Manicotti in an Asiago cream sauce. It was creamy and delicious. But we had to save room for dessert! I took this home and ate it for dinner the next day.

For dessert, we selected the Classic Tiramisu. Ladyfingers soaked in espresso with Mascarpone cheese.  Apparently, I just thought I was full because I couldn’t stop eating Maggiano’s tiramisu either.

But then… Maggiano’s manager insisted we try the Gigi’s Butter Cake. She brought out a piece of the Gigi’s Butter Cake served with honey mascarpone sauce and roasted grapes.  I was in love at first bite! I thought I had died and gone to heaven because this cake was divine!  Truly a must-order!

When our meal was over, our server brought out our two classic pasta gifts– part of our Marco’s Meal for Two special. I picked the Mushroom Ravioli and had it for lunch the following day. You simply cannot go wrong with that!
