The flavors of fall found in pumpkin spice are perfect for keeping your body healthy. Cinnamon and ginger have anti-inflammatory agents, nutmeg and allspice are natural pain relievers, cloves have antimicrobial properties, and ginger aids in minor digestive discomfort.
Since most pre-packaged pumpkin spice foods contain large amounts of sugar, it’s best to make your own homemade pumpkin spice and add it to your favorite fall recipes. That way, you are able to swap refined sugar with an alternative sweetener and monitor your healthy eating goals.
Don’t forget to make extra pumpkin spice mix to give as “thinking of you” gifts to friends and family. It’s amazing how this one small gesture brightens their day!
