4 Green Smoothie Recipes Every Girl Should Know

To make green smoothies part of your lifestyle, meal prep your fruits and vegetables ahead of time. I like to do this on Sunday nights. You can pre-measure your ingredients and store them in the refrigerator up to three to four days. If you need to extend the shelf life of your produce, you can freeze your smoothie ingredients in freezer baggies or containers.

I use green smoothies to satisfy my hunger before or after workouts, for breakfast on-the-go, as a lunch meal replacement if I have an evening food event, or as a three o’clock snack. Although I don’t drink smoothies every day, I do try to incorporate smoothies 3-4 times a week. Like they say, everything in moderation, right!

Also, be sure to stay hydrated while adding smoothies to your diet. You can create a fruit or herb-infused spa water by simply adding citrus slices, frozen berries, cucumber slices, or fresh herbs like basil or mint to filtered water.  These natural flavorings make water taste so refreshing!

4 Green Smoothie RecipesHow to Make Green Smoothies

You can swap out fruits and veggies to make your own variation of green smoothies. The rule of thumb to begin your green smoothie journey is to use spinach as your leafy green. It’s mild and blends well with just about everything. At first, use an 80% fruit 20% vegetable combination. As you acquire a taste for green smoothies, you can transition to a 50% fruit 50% vegetable blend, and then graduate to a 20% fruit 80% vegetable combo to lower the sugar content.

When you feel ready to upgrade your green smoothie skills, swap out the spinach and try using different greens like kale, chard, arugula, or dandelion greens. Each leafy green provides numerous health benefits from vitamin A, C, D, K, and minerals.
